Floridian Bloom was painted on a wood panel specifically for this exhibit at the MCA. As an active artist and avid gardener, I was genuinely intrigued to see what would grow out of such a show. I looked to my own garden for inspiration and in an ode to the old Dutch tradition of flower painting, I created my own Floridian style “miracle bloom”. I thought of it as painting a place where everything I love is in bloom. There are cactus pears and lemons and oranges. However there are snakes in the garden symbolizing the perils of being too caught up in the wonder. Floral painting can be surprisingly cerebral when given the proper consideration.
